The Winnipeg Blues are pleased to announce Billy Keane has been appointed as the general manager of the Winnipeg Blues. He will also return as head coach.
The Blues also have re-signed assistant coaches Jeff Borse, Dan Gregovski, and Sonny Mignacca. Tim Schick, head scout and director of player personnel will also be returning next season.
“Being the GM has always been something I’ve wanted to do. Don MacGillivray (former GM and head coach) was one of the most successful guys in the MJHL for decades, and I have learned a lot from him over the years,” says Keane. “I am thrilled the Blues organization provided me with this opportunity”
Billy Keane coached the Winnipeg Blues to a 27-27-6 record in his first season back as head coach of the Blues. He previously was head coach from 2004 until 2006. Keane also played with the Blues from 1982 until 1984 where he was named MVP of the Blues.
Jeff Borse is back in his second season as an assistant coach with the Blues. Borse suited up for the Blues from 2009 to 2012 and was also team captain. Previously, Borse built a winning pedigree. He was part of coaching staffs that won provincial championships with with Oak Park High School (2013-14) and the Bantam 2 Winnipeg Monarchs (2014-15).
Dan Gregovski is back for his seventh season as assistant coach with the Blues. He is responsible for providing the team with video analysis. He previously played in the MJHL with the St. James Canadians.
Sonny Mignacca returns for his fifth season as goaltender coach for the Blues. Previously, he was goalie coach for the University of Manitoba Bisons. He was league MVP of the WHL during his time with the Medicine Hat Tigers.
Tim Schick has been scouting in the MJHL and SJHL for 17 years and will be in his sixth year with the Blues next season. Schick is also the Manitoba scout for the WHL’s Kootenay Ice.
