Blues fall 3-2 after fighting back against Dauphin

The Blues dropped a tight contest to the Kings after pushing the game to a shootout.

The Dauphin Kings were quick to get the party started as Riley Buller scored just 30 seconds into the first period. Buller’s shot was assisted by Riley Shamray and Landon Russell.

Despite the score, the Blues dominated the puck for the first and into the second period. Rookie Coby Stauss was the first from the Blues to find the back of the net. Stauss’s goal was assisted by fellow-rookie Sullivan Shortreed and Riley Cusack.

Ethan Unruh added to the Blues’ side with his second goal of the season. Nathan Adrian and rookie Jayson Szun each picked up apples.

It wasn’t long before the Kings answered with another goal to tie it 2-2.

The intensity only built from there. Play bounced from end to end throughout the third period, pushing to overtime.

Blues goaltender Jack Branby stood on his head through overtime, extending the game into a shootout.

The Kings found the mesh with their first shooter. No other goals were scored through the shootout, handing the win to the visitors.

Both teams play again on Friday, Dec. 7. The Blues head to Steinbach, while the Kings host Waywayseecappo. Puck drop for both games is at 7:30 p.m.
