Blues Hold on Over Kings

Saturday night saw a rematch of last year’s MJHL final with the Blues hosting the Dauphin Kings.

The opening period gave the goalies a bit of a rest as much of the play was either in the neutral zone or fighting for the puck in the corners. With the shots only 4 to 3 for the Kings, the first finished scoreless.

The middle period certainly picked up the pace. Mitch Hansen opened the scoring with his third of the year 4:29 in. Jackson Keane made it 2-0 ten minutes later with his 8th and then with just over a minute to play, Kamerin Nault’s 9th gave the Blues a three goal lead heading to the third.

The Kings finally were able to beat Blues netminder Tyler Brown midway through the third to make for a very entertaining ending. Penalty trouble for the Blues led to dauphin having a five minute powerplay to end the game. And only a minute into it they took advantage to cut their deficit to 3-2 with 4:35 still to play. But Brown and his teammates held strong, holding them up at their blueline and limiting the Kings in their chances for a 3-2 victory.

Game notes: Mitch Hansen’s spirited second period fight called for a cleanup by the IcePlex staff. Blues Boston Pizza player of the game was Kamerin Nault while the OMG Blues hardest working player went to Taeron Lewis.
