BLUES LOSE HEARTBREAKER 2-1 TO WOLVERINES

Carson Baptiste scored with 20 seconds left in the game to give the Waywayseecappo Wolverines a 2-1 win over the Winnipeg Blues.

The Blues and Wolverines started the first on even footing, trading chances and feeling each other out. After the media time out, the Wolverines took over, hemming the Blues in shift after shift, but the game remained scoreless in the first 20 minutes.

Early in the second, Colton Shindle struck on the power play for Wayway, and the Wolverines used that momentum to control the middle frame for a good chunk of time. However, eventually the Blues got themselves a much-needed goal.

Josiah Vanderhooft scored his first goal in eight games, tipping home a shot pass from Eric Fawkes with just 29 seconds to go in the period. It snapped a stretch of 186:48 without a goal for Winnipeg.

The third saw two things: scrums after nearly every whistle, and Wayway controlling the play. For the second time in three games, the Blues only had two shots in the third period.

Winnipeg was close to forcing the game in to overtime, but one bad bounce later and Baptiste handed the Blues their fifth loss in a row.

The two teams have a night off before they face off again in Winnipeg tomorrow night for the final game before the Christmas break. The puck drops at the RINK Training Centre at 7:30 p.m. Saturday Night.
