The Blues weekend went from one end of the spectrum (1-0 shootout win on Friday) to the other (10-6 loss on Sunday). The Blues had plenty of chances Friday night against the visiting OCN Blizzard, firing 41 shots but all were stopped and the teams headed to overtime. Again, the Blues outplayed everyone on OCN but the goaltender and another shootout was needed. With the first five shooters being stopped, it was up to the Blues Jackson Keane, and he didin't disappoint. He slid the puck under the sliding Blizzard keeper to give the Blues a 1-0 shootout victory. Sunday night in Portage was a different story. The Blues had a 2-1 lead after one on goals by Jackson Keane and Gianlucca Esteves. However, in the second, the Terriers exploded for six goals and with only two by the Blues (Taeron Lewis and Ryan Bittner), it was 7-4 Portage after 40 minutes. Not ones to give up, the Blues fought back early in the third with two (Alex Alstensgard and Kamerin Nault) to make it a one goal game. However, that was as close as they would get as the Terriers rebounded with three of their own to make it a 10-6 final. Weekend notes: Friday night's game crowd had three exchange students watching their first hockey game. Congrats to Carolina from Brazil who participated in the Boston Pizza Shoot To Win contest … and won!!! First time on ice and hitting the hole to win a large Boston Pizza. The Blues Boston Player of the game was Scott Parsons with the win while the OMG Blues hardest working player went to Gianluca Esteves. Next up for the Blues is a visit to Dauphin on Friday and Neepawa on Saturday. HELLOOOOOs

With the windchill dipping to -40 over the weekend, it carried over to the Blues scoring, losing 4-1 to the Wolverines on Saturday night and 3-2 to the Oil Capitals on Sunday. Saturday night saw the visitors from Waywayseecappo jump ahead 24 seconds into the game and never look back, leading 2-0 after the first. An early goal in the second by Kamerin Nault got the Blues within one but that was all the boys in blue had as the Wolverines regained their two goal lead with 5:11 left in the second. With starter Scott Parsons pulled for the extra attacker late in the third, the Blues pressed but to no avail, dropping the contest 4-1 even though they outshot the Wolverines 33-17. Another cold night on Sunday as the Blues hosted the Virden Oil Capitals. Again the Blues more than doubled their opposition shots but just couldn't solve the Virden netminder. The Oil Capitals led 1-0 after one and 2-1 after two with the lone Blues goal coming off the stick of Brett Brooks. Only 39 seconds into the third, Brooks notched his second of the game to tie the game at two. The Blues would have had the lead if not for the quick glovehand of the Oil Capitals keeper, who kept the home squad at bay. Following a turnover in the neutral zone, Virden broke in and made it 3-2 with only 44 seconds remaining. Able to pull Parsons in the final seconds, the Blues stormed the Oil Caps net but with not result, with the game ending 3-2. Weekend notes: The Blues most recent acquisition, defenceman Joren Johnson, fit in nicely on the backend. Thanks to all the hardy fans who showed up with the weather being so nasty. Blues Boston Pizza players of the games went to Stephen Kleysen and Brett Brooks. Forwards Reid Stefanson and Liam Bilton were named the OMG Blues hardest working players following the pair of weekend games. Next up, the OCN Blizzard pay a visit to the IcePlex on Friday night. Be there early for Friday's game, as parking will be at a premium with the MMJHL's Showcase taking up two of the other rinks. HELLOOOOOs
