NEWS: WINNIPEG BLUES ACQUIRE BRANDT YOUNG FROM PORTAGE

The Winnipeg Blues have acquired defenseman Brandt Young from the Portage Terriers in exchange for forward Kyle Grysiuk.

Young began his MJHL career last season as a member of the expansion Winnipeg Freeze. After the season was cancelled, he joined the WHL’s Winnipeg ICE in the Regina bubble, appearing in 17 games with a plus-four and 21 penalty minutes.

The Neepawa local has played 13 career games in the WHL, currently sitting with no points and 19 penalty minutes with the Freeze and Terriers.

The Blues were looking for a blue liner to help augment their back end, and they were able to snag the one they wanted.

“We were looking for a left-handed D and are very excited to acquire Brandt as I have watched him a lot over the past couple years,” said Blues head coach Taras McEwan.”

“He’s a great person with a strong work ethic and will fit in well with our D core.”

Kyle Grysiuk goes to Portage after 16 games with the Winnipeg Blues. He scored one goal, back on opening night against the Winnipeg Freeze.
