READ: FLYERS STRONG THIRD HELPS KNOCK OFF BLUES 4-1

The Winkler Flyers scored three third period goals to send their fans home happy with a 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Blues.

The Flyers came out fast, but the Blues would strike first on a five-on-three. Mike Tanchak tipped a feed from Eric Fawkes past Dylan Meilun. This was the 12th time this season the Blues opened the scoring, but the first time they lost after getting the icebreaker.

The two teams traded chances until Jayden McCarthy evened things up just before the halfway mark on a power play goal of his own.

Winnipeg continued to have penalty trouble throughout the second, most notably late in the second, when Duncan Jowett took a double minor for kneeing.

The Blues, already missing four regulars from their lineup, battled hard to end the second, but the carry-over from the Jowett gave Winkler enough time to pot the eventual game winner.

Gavin Waltz scored his second of the year for Winkler’s first lead against Winnipeg this season. Jackson Arpin and Josh Beachemin added insurance late to give Winkler the win.

The two teams finish off their four-game set at the RINK Training Centre on November 6 at 7:30.
