The Selkirk Steelers used special teams and a big second period to hand the Winnipeg Blues a 6-1 loss.
It’s the first home loss of the season for Winnipeg.
Both teams started the game flat, only getting ten shots between the two of them in the first period.
Jordan Hughesman’s fluky goal with five seconds left gave the Steelers a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
In the second, Selkirk took control. Three goals, one at five-on-five, one shorthanded, and one on the power play, put Selkirk up by four.
Eric Fawkes got the Blues on the board, but the Steelers retook control for the rest of the game.
Two more shorthanded goals in the third put away the Steelers first win against the Blues this season.
The two teams face off again Saturday, October 23 at the Selkirk Recreation Complex for the final game of the set.
