READ:BLUES WIN FIRST GAME AT SHOWCASE, 4-3 OVER WAYWAYSEECAPPO

The Winnipeg Blues put together a solid defensive effort against the Waywayseecappo Wolverines for a 4-3 win in their first game at the 2021 MJHL Showcase.

Winnipeg got off to a slow start, giving up the opening goal for the fifth straight game. Once again, the Blues stayed calm and waited for their opportunity. Late in the first, they got two.

Josiah Vanderhooft and Sean Williams scored 35 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead into the intermission.

The second period saw both teams play defensive hockey, not looking to give the other team an opportunity. Boone Mathison scored his first MJHL goal to tie things up, but once again the Blues struck late.

Eric Fawkes scored a power play goal to give the Blues a late lead. Only 54 seconds into the third, Brayden Foreman extended the lead to two.

Mathison would score again to pull the Wolverines back within one, but the Blues held on for the tight win tonight.

The Winnipeg Blues play their second Showcase game tonight against the Dauphin Kings at 4:30 p.m. The winner of the game will exit the showcase in first place in the MJHL.
