Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Blues announced on Wednesday the commitments of five players; 2000-born forward Matt Hill, 2003-born forward Rhys Raeside, 2000-born forward Conner Grunsten, 2001-born forward Nolan Weihs, and 2000-born goaltender Matthew Merkel.
Hill enters his second season in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, having played 44 regular season games with the Selkirk Steelers during the 2018-2019 campaign. In those 44 games, Hill registered two points.
Raeside played 21 regular season games with Dakota Collegiate of the Winnipeg High School Hockey League last season. In those 21 games, he tallied nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points.
Grunsten played 40 regular season games for the Raiders Jr. Hockey Club of the MMJHL during the 2018-2019 campaign. In those 40 games, Grunsten scored 24 goals and added 23 assists for 47 points. The six-foot-one, 185-pound forward added two assists in five playoff games.
Weihs suited up for Garden City of the Winnipeg High School Hockey League last season. In 24 regular season games, Weihs scored 16 goals and added 16 assists for 32 points. He added five goals and eight points in eight playoff games.
Merkel played the 2018-2019 season with the St. Boniface Riels of the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League (MMJHL). In 14 regular season games, he posted a 5.47 goals against average and a .849 save percentage.
