Bilton Doubles Up Neepawa

Two goals by veteran forward Liam Bilton were all the Blues needed Tuesday night against the visiting Neepawa Natives. Neepawa came out flying to start the game, at one point outshooting the Blues 6-0.  They capitalized early in the first taking a 1-0 lead 2:50 in.  Six minutes later, Bilton evened it up with his 14th of the season and the game was tied after one.  It was end to end action in the opening period with the shots at 18-11 in favour of the Blues. The second period was much more defensive (in comparison to the first).  But it would be Bilton's offense that would give the Blues the lead they wouldn't give up as he scored his second of the game on the powerplay with 4:45 left and a 2-1 Blues lead after two. The Natives pressed in the third to even it up but the Blues defence and goaltender Scott Parsons would hold their ground as the Blues held on for their 20th win of the year. Game notes:  The Blues Boston Pizza player of the game was Liam Bilton while the OMG hardest working player went to Scott Parsons.  The Blues had the Winnipeg Wild d-man Zach Lamothe in the lineup due to injuries and he didn't look out of place.  Neepawa had their chances but two crossbars got in the way. Rowswell Thaws Blizzard

Scott Rowswell lit up the scoresheet Thursday night with four goals and a helper in leading the Blues to a 7-4 victory over the OCN Blizzard. Surprisingly, looking at the final score, the first period was scoreless.  The floodgates opened up in the second as the Blues held a 5-3 lead after two.  Five goals were scored in a span of four and a half minutes as Ezra Hall opened the scoring 4:03 in.  With the Blues on the powerplay, Rowswell's first of the night made it 2-0 almost six minutes in.  OCN cut the deficit to 2-1 and tied it up a minute later.  Before the Blizzard could enjoy their success, Rowswell's second regained the lead for the home squad.  He completed the hat trick with just over five minutes to go in the period and it was 4-2.  Late in the period, the Blizzard got back within one but it only took nine seconds before Jake Stilwell would score the final goal of a wild second period and it was 5-3. Another powerplay and another Blues goal early in the third as Kamerin Nault would seem to put the game out of reach for OCN.  However they persisted and with the goalie pulled early, scored with 2:47 left to draw within two.  Rowswell's 4th of the evening, into the empty Blizzard net, made it a 7-4 final. Game notes:  The Blues Boston Pizza player of the game was Scott Rowswell with a five point night (4G – 1A).  The OMG hardest working Blues player was Geordie Keane.  The injuries mount as defenceman Mack Heisinger left in the 1st after being crushed into the boards and didn't return.  Another Winnipeg Wild call up showed well as d-man Mark Wilson gained plenty of ice time following the Heisinger injury and hit the scoresheet with two second period assists.
