Blues Drop Heartbreaker in OT

Both teams could be asking “Who was that masked man” as the goaltenders stole the show on this night. Unfortunately the Blues came out on the short end of the stick on a 2 to 1 overtime loss to the visiting Winkler Flyers.

The first period opened with the Flyers outshooting the Blues 13 to 8 but could not find the back of the net behind Blues goalie Adam Derochie. The second saw more of the same with the ice tilting even more in favour of the Flyers with the shots ending up 21 to 11 in favour of the Flyers. It was midway through the second that the Flyers finally beat Derochie and went up 1 to 0.

Blues Captain Geordie Keane evened things up late in the third with some help from Ryan Mutch in what was a pretty even period.

The game needed overtime to resolve things and with the new 3 on 3 format both teams exchanged some great chances. With a buck and a half remaining Matt LeBlanc got called for a high stick while defending down low in the Blues zone putting the Flyers on a 4 on 3 power play where Nico Labossiere got his second of the night putting the dagger in the heart of the Blues. The boys battled hard all night against one of the leagues top teams and that effort should carry forward to Sundays road trip to Virden.

Go Blues!!!
