Blues Slide By Oil Capitals

With one of the best crowds of this young season Levi Cudmore was the difference maker breaking the deadlock in the shootout enabling the Blues to slide by the Oil Capitals 3 to 2.

In what was an end to end fast and furious game the Capital struck first halfway through the first but five minutes later while killing a penalty Dale Goodbrandson cut off a pass and went in on a shorthanded breakaway to tie the game at one.

The second saw a lot of action but no goals as both teams had some quality chances in what was a freewheeling period that featured speed, speed and more speed.

The tie continued late into the third when Virden once again took the lead with less than four minutes to go but the Blues did not quite. Nick Prouty pounced on a loose puck during a goal mouth scramble that tied the game and sent things to overtime. In overtime the Blues carried the play but could not score sending things to a shootout.

In the shootout Rhett Lough opened the scoring on the first shot but Virdens Tyler Kirkup tied things up with a goal that had more moves than a bowl of jello. Levi Cudmore stepped up in the fifth round and ripped the winner by Marc Audet for the win.

Adam Deroche stopped 28 of 28 shots plus 4 of the 5 shots in the shootout to preserve the win.
