Blues Hold Flyers at Bay, But Not Enough as Flyers Win 6-2
Winkler, MB – It was a rare Wednesday night game in Winkler for the Blues, who were making up a postponed game from back in October against the Flyers.
The Blues were looking for a bit of a different fate against the Winkler squad who sits top dog in the East Division, as a tough 7-0 loss came in the same building just back on the 4th.
The first period started off quick for Winnipeg, as Evan Gradt would find the back of the net for his 12th goal of the season, giving the Blues a 1-0 lead.
It wasn’t all bacon and eggs for long however, as Winkler’s Nick Mckee and Liam Carlone would both find the back of the net less than 2 minutes later, making it a 2-1 Flyers lead.
Later in the first, the goals would start to pile up, or so one thought, as Isiah Peters found his 10th of the season for Winkler. However Winnipeg would respond, with a big goal, 19 minutes and 55 seconds into the first from Adam Matar.
Leading into the third, with Winkler only up a goal, Winnipeg did all they could to try and hold the Flyers at bay for longer, but were unsuccessful as 10 minutes and 14 seconds into the second, Brody Beauchemin would find the back of the net to make it 4-2.
In the third, it was much of the same, Winnipeg would establish a forecheck and get a couple great chances off, however a massive save from the Flyers’ Leif Ekblad would keep Winkler up 2 goals.
Midway through the third, Niklas Gudmundson would find the back of the net on a Flyers power-play, and make it 5-2.
Then late in the third, the Flyers’ Jayce Legaarden would net his 25th goal of the season for Winkler on a shot that if you blinked, you would have quite easily missed, making it a 6-2 Winkler Flyers lead, to the end of the 60 minutes.
A tenacious effort from Kyle Beilman who was spectacular, and really did everything he could to help try and steal one for Winnipeg, as he saved 43 of 49 shots faced, but could not find the win in this one.
